Hardenbergia is usually known as a climbing or spreading plant, but here's a useful shrub form of the popular plant. Purple Spray is a hardy, evergreen, woody-stemmed shrub with an upright, branching habit.

Width: to 1m
Best planting time: March to October.
Flowering time: Spring through to Summer.
Foliage/Flowers: Dark green leaves with burgundy tinged new growth. Purple pea-like flowers.
Optimum planting requirements: Plant 1-2 plants per m2 for mass plantings and optimum soil stabilisation.
Optimum climatic zones: Best planted in cool or temperate areas. Won't tolerate arid or tropical conditions.
Uses: Mass plantings, retaining walls, embankments.
Soil Type: Moderately draining soils, light clay loams - sandy loams.
Care: Heavy pruning is beneficial every 4-5 years by 2/3 of the plant.
