Chrysocephalum Silver & Gold

Category: Chrysocephalum

Silver & Gold is a thick, mat forming ground cover that is very useful in lots of different ways. It can cover up to one square metre, and acts as an excellent weed suppressant. It also works well as a natural mulch to keep the soil cooler.

The grey-green foliage is a complementary contrast to other garden plants, and you’ll see stunning golden flower clusters covering the plant for most of the year, bringing an exciting flush of colour to the garden.

Silver & Gold is fast growing and sturdy, handling light frosts and periods of dryness. And not only is this variety highly effective as a ground cover, but it also looks great in pots and tubs, on banks and next to retaining walls.

Maintenance Plant in a sunny position in well drained soil. Due to its tolerance of salty air, this plant is suitable for planting in coastal regions. There’s no real need to prune unless you want to shape it. Old flowers deadhead easily and are covered by subsequent new flowering stems.
Fertiliser Feed in autumn and spring with a small amount of controlled release fertiliser around the base of the plant to promote good plant health. Chrysocephalum is not especially phosphorus sensitive, so you needn’t necessarily have to use a native plant fertiliser.
Watering Silver & Gold is able to withstand periods without watering, however, extra irrigation at the time of flower bud formation will benefit flowering performance. If possible, keep the plant moist in dry conditions to encourage
Pest & Diseases You may see caterpillars munching on flower buds and leaves or aphids enjoying time with new shoots. Watch out for evidence of slugs and snails. If you see a problem and need advice, see your specialist plant retailer for more information.
